Dr. Appt. & Sonogram

Today I had my 36 week sonogram. Luckily Gilbert was able to leave work so he could see the sonogram. It is still hard for me to really picture what she looks like. When I look at the sonogram monitor I just think she looks like skeletor, but with chunkier cheeks! She already weighs 5 lbs. 15 oz. - which is a good healthy weight. The doctor predicted that she will gain a half a pound to a full pound the next few weeks - so he is thinking she will be around 8 lbs at birth. The big news is that she has hair - lots of hair!! So I guess someone needs to teach me how to make ponytails!
This is a shot of the top of her head. You can see the wispys where the arrow is.

As for me, I have lost weight since my last appointment 2 weeks ago - which is a huge relief. Everything else with me was fine - I go back again next week. It felt strange hearing the doctor tell me when I should call them (contractions, water breaking, etc.). Just makes everything more real!

Week 36 - Almost There!

This Tuesday I will be going to the doctor for my last sonogram. Gilbert has to work 6 days this week, but luckily the owner is going to cover for him so he can go to the appointment with me. We are both excited to see her - and to get reassurance that she is healthy and on track for delivery in three weeks. I am also keeping my fingers crossed that I haven't gained much if any weight in the past two weeks.

Super Sunday

There aren't too many weekends left before the baby arrives, so Gilbert and I are at warp speed trying to get everything done around the house. On Friday our lawn mower broke, so we had to get a new one. It was an expense that we didn't need, but better to buy one now than have to buy one in a few months!

Before testing out the new mower, we tested out some new dog clippers. We decided that it was just too expensive to take both the dogs to the groomers, so today after church we purchased some clippers. Who knew they were so expensive? Gilbert did all the dirty work - I just sat and watched and told him not to cut too much off! Ricco went first and was a pretty good sport for the first 20 minutes, but the next 40 were challenging!

For Roxie we only trimmed her with scissors and did her nails. She wouldn't let us get to the back nails so we are going to have to take her to the groomers for that.

The finished product

After Gilbert got done with both hair and nail cuts, he put both of them in the bathtub and gave them a good bath. No matter how clean you get dogs, they still end up smelling like wet dog in the end! Gilbert did a great job and we both agree that groomers deserve all the money they charge!

Ricco looks 100 times better and at least 10 pounds lighter!

The Crib Has Finally Arrived

After waiting for 3 months - the crib finally arrived this week. Gilbert and his friend John went to pick it up from the warehouse on Friday evening. The box was HUGE. Thank goodness John brought one of his teenage sons along to help! The box was so overwhelming and Gilbert was pretty tired from the week, so we decided that we would wait until Sunday to assemble. The crib came with all the pieces needed to convert it into a toddler and full-size bed, so it took a few minutes to figure out what parts went with what stage!

Gilbert cutting into the big box.

Lifting out the first piece.

Putting it together. We tested out the baby monitor since I was in a different room and Gilbert periodically needed my help. It worked great!

While Gilbert worked on the crib, I worked on the diaper bags. Guess which one is mine??

The curtain that my Mom made. It fits the room perfectly!

Everything is coming together...

Can you believe that this dresser is almost full?

Week 35

I went to the doctor on Thursday and everything is good. Well, except for my weight gain. This visit was the highest weight jump I have had - and the scary thing was it was only 2 weeks since my last visit!!! The doctor thinks a lot of it was water weight - I was really off my usual eating/drinking/exercising schedule - so I am hoping that since I am back to my routine - my next visit won't be so depressing! When I go back in two weeks, they will do the final sonogram. I can't wait!

Birthday Brunch

After church we went to Chez Zee for my birthday brunch. Amy and I both got the "Bed & Breakfast French Toast" which was two pieces of french toast stuffed with bananas, blueberries, strawberries, walnuts and honey. Mom got the creme brulee french toast and Gilbert got the tacos. Everything tasted great!

Sophie enjoying Amy's orange juice. I think she drank half the glass!

Posing outside. After I took this picture she sat on the other side of the walk and waited for me to take another.

Later that evening I opened gifts. My family got me a camcorder - which will be perfect for documenting all of Eva's firsts! Gilbert got me the baby sling that I really wanted - he is so good about reading my lists:)

The card Sophia got me had stickers inside. Here she is decorating herself.

Chocolate is delicious!

It was a wonderful 29th birthday and I was so glad to get to share it with everyone.

Car Show

On Sunday our church had their first ever car show. Gilbert was in heaven. Here are some of his favorites.

Baby Shower

This past weekend my Mom, sister and Sophia all flew to Austin to throw me a baby shower. Jenny and Jorge offered to have it at their house - which was wonderful! The biggest surprise of the shower was from my Aunt Cheryl and cousin Suzie. They surprised me on Saturday afternoon by showing up at my house. They flew in from Florida just for the shower. I couldn't have asked for a better surprise!!

The weather on Saturday was perfect and we spent most of the shower outside. My sister took lots of pictures of the decorations and the food, so I will have to do a separate blog with some of those pictures. My Mom made a beautiful fruit arrangement and lots and lots of cupcakes (my special request!). Amy put the games together. First was "The Price is Right" where people had to guess the prices of some baby items. She made a very lovely Bob Barker poster which will have to make an appearance at baby showers in the future!! We also played a relay game in which each team had to dress and undress a baby doll. I took a lot of pictures of that event - but none of the 2nd game which was pictionary.

We received so many lovely presents and are so grateful to have so many people that care about us. Thank you to everyone who came to the shower - and a huge thank you to my Mom, sister, Aunt Cheryl, Suzie, Jenny and Jorge. You all helped to make the shower so memorable!

The Games

Gilbert dressing the baby. Good thing you didn't get points deducted for not being gentle:)

Megan getting in some good practice for her upcoming Aunt role.

Jenny - the pro

Jeff - who said he wouldn't play any shower games:)

Lupe - the competitive one on our team!

I felt so much pressure. My hands wouldn't move fast enough!

The Gifts

We got a lot of cute Pooh stuff. My Mom reminded me that I loved Pooh as a child.

Gilbert having fun with tissue paper.

Isn't this an awesome gift bag? My sister got Eva 4 pairs of shoes. Wow!

Gilbert modeling Eva's bikini.

The Guests

Joanna. I don't know why she looks so sad:(

Testing Out the New Highchair

For a shower gift, my Mom got Eva her highchair. We set it up a few weeks ago in anticipation for Sophie's arrival. It is the same model that my sister has, but just with a different patten. I think she looked quite cute in it!!

A new thing that Sophie is now doing is eating your cereal with you. Here she is sharing her Mama's cereal.
