Eva Update

I know it has been awhile since I have updated the blog. Working full time has been tough:) Eva is growing up so fast! Some highlights...

She is talking up a storm and will repeat what we say. She has really been into Christmas - and will say Santa, presents, ornaments, candy cane, cookies, tree, etc....
She LOVES to read and will pick out what books she wants read every night. She really likes her Christmas books and Sandra Boynton books. She will say "again" if the first time wasn't enough and we will read it over and over until she picks a new book!
She wants to dress herself and will get very upset if we try to help her. She really does a good job:) She says "boots" and will put on her little pink boots and also loves to put on our shoes.
We have started potty training. We have to bribe her with M&Ms just to sit on the potty. This should be fun.....
She likes to "bake" things in her little play kitchen.
LOVES water - which includes bath time and putting items in her cup and watching them float. She doesn't want a cup with a lid anymore - but usually dumps water in a big girl cup on herself, the floor, or my laptop (I now have a new one....).
She is a great little mom. She takes her dolls with her. Yesterday she took one of her pampers and laid her baby on the changing pad and wanted to change her diaper. She also gives her babies a bottle and sits them in her little rocking chair infront of the tv.
She says "hat" and puts on a cute hat that is too small for her head and walks around the house with it on.
Gives Roxie a hug first thing in the morning and calls Ricco - Boo Boo.
She now enjoys going to church and playing with the other kids in the nursery.
Feeds herself with a regular spoon (she doesn't like the baby stuff:)
Draws and colors (including brown marker on Gilbert's face when he fell asleep watching her!!!!)

Gilbert and I are so blessed to have a happy, healthy, funny girl with tons of personality. I will try to be better with updating the blog!

Build A Bear

Gilbert's Mom gave us money this year to take Eva to Build A Bear for her Christmas gift. Gilbert and I both took today off and thought it would be a great idea to take her and meet up with Megan, Troy and Caroline.

Eva was a little overwhelmed by all the choices, but ended up picking a panda bear. She has a series of videos called Little Pim that teach her spanish, so when she saw the panda bear she keps saying Pim!

I had a great time picking out Little Pim's outfit. I could go crazy in there:) I am sure we will take her back in a few months to pick out a new outfit for her bear - which would be a lot cheaper than getting her a new bear:)

After our bear experience we went to eat at O'Charleys. Eva was such a good girl at the restaurant and loved looking at Caroline - or "Baby" as she called her!

Gilbert's Mom got Eva these shoes awhile back and for some time, they terrified Eva. Now - she LOVES them and will bring them to Gilbert and I to put on. She wanted to wear them right before bed - and we thought it would be a good way to get the last bit of energy out of her. It worked - she went to sleep in less than 5 minutes!

Toddler Bed

We decided to go ahead and convert the crib into a toddler bed. One of the main reasons for doing this is to try to get Eva to sleep in HER bed. While we love having her in our bed - she is getting longer and the space is getting more and more cramped:) Plus she is into climbing on everything and we much rather convert now instead of waiting for her to fall out of her crib. She was a big helper and loved Daddy's tool box. She also likes how she can now climb in and out of her bed. Tonight is the first night...hope it goes well!

16 Months Old

I can't believe my little girl is already 16 months old! She is talking up a storm and if you listen closely - you can hear some "real" words! She loves talking on the phone and is very good about following directions (i.e. picking up her toys when asked or going to a certian room of the house). Gilbert will start first shift on Monday - and I will be so happy for the additional family time that we will have.

Trip to Grammies

For Labor Day weekend, Mom, Amy, me and the kiddos headed to Pennslyvania to visit Grammie and Grandpop. Let's just say that even though our ratio was 3 adults to 3 children - it was still a challenge. Eva was in the process of cutting two molars when we flew there - and I was the parent with the screaming kid on the airplane. We had a great visit overall - and I was very happy to see Grammie and Grandpop.

Mom requested a mini-van and got this. Amy & Mom said it drove nicely - and I thought the interior was pretty good. But not good for 3 carseats and legroom in the 3rd row seat. Also not a lot of room in the back for luggage. Good thing Amy and Mom are good packers!

Big Splash

This weekend we went to Big Splash - an indoor water park in French Lick with the Short family went with us and we had a great time!

The rooms were really nice and spacious. Eva really liked the chair!

The waterpark was great. Most everything was indoors, but the did have an outdoor area. If I had brought sunscreen, we probably would have spent more time outdoors on Saturday. The weather was perfect to be outdoors! Inside was temperature controlled and was just the perfect level of warmth - and the water wasn't cold - yeah! There were things to do for all different ages - I enjoyed the kiddie pool and lazy river!

You really couldn't be lazy on the lazy river because water would blast out at various places!

On Saturday night we went to the town square to find something to eat. We stopped at a pizza place and the adults decided to take advantage of the $2.25 draft beer with our pizza! Dinner was great - but the restaurant was hot - so we went to Dairy Queen to cool off. But it was the hottest DQ I have ever been in!! We had to eat our ice cream quickly before it melted!

Saturday Out and About

Because of cash flow issues, Gilbert and have not eaten out in FOREVER (unless someone else is buying!). So today we decided to have a late lunch/early dinner at Cheddar's - but I told Gilbert he had to drink water (do you know they charge $1.99 for coke???). We had a very nice time - not going out a lot makes you really appriciate it when you do....

We purchased an inflatable pool at Target this past week and decided to test it out today. No matter how much hot water we added to the pool, the water was still super cold! Eva didn't seem to mind and enjoyed playing with me. She was a little silent in the video - I guess she was just too busy!

Busy Saturday

Today we went over to Oxmoor in Louisville to get Eva a pair of shoes. I can't believe she is wearing a size 5!!! I guess it makes sense for her height - but it seemed that she zoomed from a 3 to a 5 within weeks! I hope she at least stays this size for a while - shoes aren't cheap!

Playing with the little snails that the Bishops got her for her birthday. Roxie liked them too!

After she woke up from her nap we went on a walk and then played with sidewalk chalk. Eva wasn't as interested in the chalk as she was a Barbie watch that she found on the sidewalk infront of the house. She also liked running around the driveway and the front yard. She is a very busy girl!

A few things to brag about... All parents think their kids are smart and we are no different! Each afternoon Eva and I go on a walk. When we get back, we go in the house and fill up 2 old water jugs and go back outside and water the plants. The other day Eva stayed outside with Gilbert and I took one jug in to get some water. While I was inside, Eva grabbed the other jug, went over to the plants and started to tip the jug as if to water them! She really knows the routine!!

And after Gilbert showing her the moon once, she can point to it if asked. Yesterday we asked her where the moon was and she just dipped her head all the way back so she could look at the sky! She also knows her tongue and will stick it out when asked! I guess all that nasty fish oil paid off:)

Afternoon with Meme & Aunt Michele

It has been awhile since the last post. I was going to blog about Eva's birthday - but thought that I would start with more current events and maybe re-visit her party later!

On Monday we went over to visit with Meme and Aunt Michele. At first Eva was very shy and started to cry whenever anyone would look at her, but within 10 minutes or so she was off and running through Meme's house - wanting to grab everything!! She really enjoyed going outside to play and was drawn to the roses! She kept up on our toes!

She found this little ball - don't know if it is Panchos or Pittsy Poos, but she loved playing with it!

I have so many wonderful memories of playing in the backyard with my sister when we were younger. It was fun to watch Eva playing in the same place. Funny how things seem to come full circle. Her name of "Life Reborn" fits perfectly.

1 Year Check-Up

Tuesday morning we took Eva to the doctor for her check-up. She was a good girl, although it was hard to get her weight and height because she kept crying! The dr. said that she looked great and is on the right track. She weighed 20 lbs (25th percentile) and was 30.5 inches (90th percentile). So tall and skinny - our little supermodel:)

A Day of Firsts

Today was a day of firsts for Eva.

1) She colored! We went to IHOP after church with Mom and Dad and she grabbed the crayons as Gilbert and Mimi showed her how to color. Yes, she did put them in her mouth, but she also did a great job once she got the hang of it!

2) Climbing up stairs. We always keep a gate at the bottom of the stairs, but since the dogs were outside and we were having guests over, we took the gate off. Eva used that as her opportunity to climb up the stairs. She loves it!

3) Held out her arms to Amy and actually let Amy hold her with me standing right there. Eva has been around my sister on a regular basis since she was 5 months old. But she usually won't go to her and stay with her if I am around. But at the party she held out her arms to Amy and cuddled with her. I loved it, Eva loved it and Amy loved it!

One other story that I have to share....Eva is now fine with Gilbert or my Mom putting her down for bed or a nap. This is a HUGE accomplishment as for a long time I was the only one that could put her down. She also lets you know when she is ready for bed. With Gilbert and my Mom she will go over and want them to pull her in their lap. She will usually give a hug then turn around, sit on their knee and hum herself to sleep! We have Eva on a flexible schedule - meaning that she naps and eats at regular intervals - but not necessarily at the same clock time each day - since we start the intervals at whatever time she wakes up (which lately has been anywhere from 6:00 - 7:30 AM). There are still times when she only wants me, but she is getting better and better about being with others. When I left her with my Mom on Friday, she didn't even fuss or go to look for me. Freedom is near!!!

Saturday in the Park (it sure was hot like July!)

This morning Mom, Amy and I stopped at a few yardsales to get some toys for the kids. Then we met up with our kids and husbands so that Gilbert & Cory could go to the movies and the rest of us could go to the park. We went to a park over in Louisville by Slugger Field and the Waterfront. It was a lot of fun. I love the fact that they had water stuff - because it was hot. I can't believe that I lasted in Texas for almost 8 years when I hate hot weather!! I guess my body has gotten used to the cold again here - so 85 degrees felt very warm!! Eva was a little unsure what to do with the water, but she had a great time. I look forward to going again!

We had one of these on the playground at our elementary school in North Carolina. I loved it and was terrified of it at the same time. The girls seemed to like it - and will probably enjoy it more as they get older.

My Little Girl is One Year Old!

How did that happen?? Gilbert and I managed to survive the first year - and we are so blessed to have a healthy happy little girl! I wanted to post some pictures of her when she was little in this blog, but looking at old pictures made me consider for a second having another - so there will be no newborn picture posting in this blog:) But I will put this one..because it reminds me of how tiny she was!

Amy and I went to a neighborhood yard sale on Saturday and I was able to get a bunch of things for Eva for her birthday. The best purchase was a Little Tikes kitchen - in excellent condition. I don't have a picture of that yet - but I am sure I will post one soon. She loves playing with all the cabinets - and putting her baby doll in the oven!

On Wednesday Mom, Dad and Sophia came over to sing Happy Birthday to Eva and share some chocolate cake (which Eva managed to get in her hair!!!)

Today Stephanie and Samantha came over for a playdate. Eva loves being around other kids and she and Samantha shared toys and "talked" to one another. So cute!!

Super Cute Saturday

My girl. When I put these cute shoes on her this morning I almost started to cry. She is no longer a baby, but a little girl. Time has just flown by!

The front of our house needed a little color, so we picked up 4 Gerber daisies - red, yellow, orange and pink. Eva liked being outside - new and different things to see and touch!

Mother's Day

This was my first official Mother's Day. It was a very relaxing day - Gilbert made breakfast and lunch for me and then we went over to Mom's for dinner. Since I usually cook at least 2 meals every day (breakfast during the week is cereal for Gilbert and baked oatmeal for me) and all 3 on the weekends, it was very nice to have a break!

New Things

Grouping like things together. She will grab matching shoes and both toy trains. She also will take out all her little blocks and put them all back into the box.
Throwing and bouncing a ball.
Whispering. And SCREAMING!!!

Throws major tantrums when we won't give her something that she wants.
Points to what food item she wants to try. She also really likes to feed herself and get the food from the container.

Learning body parts. She has "nose" down pat. Still working on the rest!!

She isn't talking yet, but does a lot of sound repeating after we tell her words. We are doing both English and Spanish, so we realize that her speech may be delayed due to dual language development.

On Saturday afternoon we went to a birthday party for Cooper - who turned 2. Cooper's parents and I went to high school together and they live in the neighborhood right behind where we live. Also at the party was another old friend from high school - it was fun to catch up and watch the kids play!

Mom's Birthday

On Tuesday everyone came over to celebrate Mom's birthday. It was great having the whole family together.

The food!! Red rice and white rice, chips and homemade salsa, fish (for fish tacos) and corn on the cob.

Corn tortillas, mexican martini, sauce for the fish tacos, southwest layer salad and beef for beef tacos.

Mom really didn't want a birthday party, so we had a luau party instead. The cake was a white cake with truffle icing.

Derby Party

On Saturday we went over to Aaron and Katie's for their annual Derby party. Although I didn't even watch the race, we had a lot of fun and I enjoyed talking to friends that I had not seen in years. I didn't take any pictures, but got these from Katie.

Amy & Cory wanted to look at furniture today so Sophia came over to hang out. The girls played for a little bit when she first got here and then Gilbert put Eva down for a nap and I hung out with Sophia. We had a busy day. We played with Max & Ruby paperdolls, made brownies, played outside with a ball and picked flowers for Mom and Dad. She also wanted to help me with sweeping the floor. We had a fun day for sure - and the proof was in the fact that she fell asleep in the car about 10 minutes down the road. Come over any time Sophia!!

Eva LOVES Roxie and Ricco. Roxie likes playing with her, but Ricco seems to always want to go outside whenever she wants to play with him! I am very impressed with how well both dogs are with her. They allow her to pull and poke on them - and crawl in a cage with them! Today Roxie was in her cage and Eva went in there with her. Both of them seemed to have a fun time!

My Picky Eater

Eva has been going through a phase where she spits out pretty much everything we give her. The only thing she will consistently eat is pasta. So for lunch today I gave her some mac and cheese (with some ground turkey - I think she ate a few bites). She also had her choice of puffs, apple bites, little crunchies and wagon wheels. Then for dessert she enjoyed an Oreo. I hope this phase passes quickly - it makes feeding time very....challenging!

Shopping

On Thursday afternoon Eva and I joined Amy and Isaac for a little shopping. We went to Target, Children's Place & Bath & Body Works. Eva is getting to that challenging age where she doesn't want to be in the cart or the stroller - and she really doesn't want to be held either. She wants to be able to walk around on her own and grab anything that interests her. Needless to say, by the end of the day, my back and shoulders hurt and my nerves were shot. But I did enjoy hanging out with Amy & Isaac!

Isaac and Eva were pretty exhausted after the shopping excursion. I don't blame them - I could have used a nap as well:)

Easy Chicken & Pasta Dinner

Tonight I combined a bunch of things and made a great dinner. Here is my recipe - lets call it Julie's chicken pasta & garlic bread dinner. The serving size is enough for 2 adults with some leftovers.

Things you Need:
Pasta of your choice
Garlic
Butter
French or Italian Bread
Olive Oil
White Wine
Heavy Whipping Cream

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Start a pot of water for the pasta.
Chop up 4 cloves of garlic.
Melt half a stick of butter.
Cut a loaf of French or Italian bread in half and put on a baking sheet. (I only used 1 half - to use all the bread, double the butter and add another clove of garlic)
Combine half of the garlic with the melted butter and spread on the bread. Drizzle some olive oil on top and put in the oven.
Once your water is boiling add your pasta and cook according to the package directions. Make sure you add a lot of salt to your boiling water.
Start a small pan over medium heat and add some olive oil. Once hot, brown the rest of the garlic. Add 1/4 cup white wine and let reduce - takes about a minute or so. Note about wine - I used an opened bottle that had been in my fridge for over a week and it was still fine. And another note - never use a wine for cooking that you wouldn't drink! Once reduced add 1/4 cup heave whipping cream. Season with some salt and reduce to simmer. Allow to thicken.
While everything is working, take a store bought rotisserie chicken and shred.
Once the pasta is done, drain the water and return to the pot. Add the sauce and half of the shredded chicken. You can also add some Parmesan cheese.
Keep an eye on the bread. I turned up the heat for the last few minutes to 415 degrees to get it nice and crispy.

I took the rest of the chicken and added some bbq sauce and heated. We will be having bbq chicken sandwiches for lunch tomorrow:)

Thunder Over Louisville

Dad was able to get tickets through his work for Thunder Over Louisville. For those reading this blog that are out of state, Thunder Over Louisville is the big kick-off to the Kentucky Derby. The day is filled with air shows (which were pretty impressive, although a bit loud) and then a huge fireworks display at night. There are 2 barges of fireworks and fireworks that go off one of the bridges that cross the Ohio River. The fireworks show is the largest in North America and is pretty impressive. They estimated that over 700,000 people attended the event! Which is why the tickets to a reserved area, free parking and free were the only way to go! Thanks Dad for a great time! And thanks to Cory for getting us home in record time!!

We arrived around 5 and Eva took a nap during the air show. Then she fell asleep not too long after the fireworks started at 9:30. This girl can seriously sleep through anything (wonder where she got that from?)

Today we went to the zoo with my sister, Sophia and Isaac. It was a beautiful day and many others had the same idea! Sophia had a lot of fun looking at the animals and Eva seemed to enjoy it as well. Taking little ones to the zoo is exhausting! But so worth it!

We went to church this morning at the new Southeast location in Southern Indiana. It was so nice to only drive 15 minutes or so to church! Eva stayed in the nursery the entire time. I was a bit nervous about it, but she cried a bit, slept and then cried a bit more. Hopefully she will start adjusting to other people and places. It was nice to be able to sit through an entire service!

Wish I got a picture of her in her pretty orange dress. But I am sure Amy took plenty that she will post to her blog. Sophia's class was right across the hall from Eva's (I really wish that they could have been in a room together...). When I peeked in to see her the first time, she was busy with the play kitchen. The next time I poked my head in there she didn't look too happy. I am guessing it was because two boys had taken the kitchen over!!

She still had some remaining tears on her face. She sure knows how to make us feel bad!

Isaac was super cute in his sweater vest. You can't see his shoes, but they were awesome too. And I liked my Dad's shirt and tie combo. Both of the boys were sharp dressers today.

It seems that most of my friends are pregnant right now. From April until October, I know at least one woman giving birth! My wonderful friend in California Nicolle is due at the end of April/beginning of May; Amanda a friend from high school is due in June; my cousin Jen in July; my best friend Megan in August; my good friend Jenny in Austin is due in September; and my bosom buddie Katie is due in October. And I also know a handful of friends and acquaintances that are due in the next few months as well. New babies and mamas all over the place!!

Today was Megan's baby shower. I was excited to see her and for our mini-reunion of high school friends. Megan, Katie, Lindy and I got together over Christmas, but we haven't seen our friend Amanda since high school. The only one missing from our group was Kelly - who I haven't seen since we played at her wedding years ago. Thank goodness for myspace and facebook which have allowed us to all keep touch over the years!!

I remember sitting at my house during our senior year of high school as we all talked about who would get married first and who would have babies first. I am not too sure any of us got our predictions right!! I think marriage order ended up being Lindy, Kelly, Katie, me, Megan and Amanda. And babies ended up Lindy, Kelly, me, Amanda, Megan and Katie. But it was so nice that 12 years later we can all still sit down and talk together like no time has passed. It also reminded me of the great gift of friendship and how blessed I am to have such wonderful friends. It motivated me to get out more often and spend time with my friends who live here!!

Early Sunday morning we went to South Padre with the Bishops. The water was a bit chilly, but we were so happy that we got to go. Robby and Katie jumped in the water, while the rest of us just got our feet wet! Eva seemed to really like the beach, she talked to the waves and the sand. We can't wait to take her to the beach again!

She loved picking up shells and putting them in the bucket. And then she liked to dump them and start all over again!

We flew down to the Valley on Friday to suprise Gilbert's Mom for her 60th birthday. She was super suprised to get home from work and see us in her living room and was suprised later that evening when Robby, Katie, Nikki and Brad also arrived.

Closet Space

Gilbert and I LOVE our house and are so happy to be moved in and mostly settled. The one concern I had was the size of our new closet. In Austin we each had our own walk-in closet, and mine was full to the brim with clothes and my extensive shoe collection. I knew that I needed to go through my clothes as well as my shoes since I now have less closet space. I had to get creative when displaying my shoes. I used an old bookcase for my favorites and then some hanging closet organizers for sandals and flats.

I still have boxes and boxes of shoes to go through, but that will be another time....

And on a different note... I made a delicious breakfast this morning. Cinnamon Roll Pizza. It was so good that Gilbert told me I could make him this for his birthday cake:)

Eva likes to help prepare the bathtub for her bathtime. I used to line her toys up on the ledge and she would push them in. Then she discovered that she could grab them and put them in the tub herself. Now anytime she is in the bathroom, she drops her toys in the tub. She is a fast learner!

Last night Eva decided that she wanted to help out with her feeding. The past few weeks she has been very insistent on picking up food and feeding herself. But last night was the first time that she actually grabbed for her spoon (and didn't just drop it on the floor). She made a huge mess, but I am just happy that she ate! We also tried milk last night in her sippy cup. She seemed to like it. Baby steps...

9 Month Dr. Visit at 10 Months

We were a little delayed in taking Eva to her 9 month visit. Everything went well - she is now 18 lbs (45th percentile) and 28.5 inches (80th percentile). So she is still tall and skinny:) Her development is right on track, so I can stop freaking out because she isn't talking yet! Eva really doesn't like strangers, but Dr. Wheeler is the exception!

This morning I got dressed up for the job fair. Overall I was glad I went, although it was frustrating. Most of the banks I spoke with were not hiring and some were not even accepting resumes. Makes you wonder why they were even there?? I am still keeping the faith that the right job is out there for me.

It was fun putting on makeup and getting dressed up - as oftentimes I stay in my pjs all day. Here are a few pictures of me when I got home. I missed my little girl!

When we started to give Eva a pacifier, I already worried about how we would get her off of it once she became older. Turns out I shouldn't have worried because about a month or so ago she decided that she didn't want it anymore. Today she found one in my bedside drawer. Growing Up

Eva took her first steps on Tuesday. She walked a few times throughout the day and was quite pleased with herself. She hasn't done it since, but I am sure it is just a matter of time before she remembers that she can walk!!

She loves to play her version of hide and seek. If I open the bedroom door she will take off across the hall to either the guest room or her bedroom and wait for me to come and get her. She also likes to crawl inbetween furniture and peek up at me. She is a super fast crawler!!

She walks around her learn and groove music table and gets so excited that she starts breathing funny - almost like a snort. She really likes the mobility thing...

Eva loves to do everything by herself. She wants to feed herself and hold a cup herself. Last night she filled a cup in the bathtub up with water and tried to drink it! She really observes and mimics from that. On Monday she watched Sophia playing with a clapper toy and then went over and knew just what to do with it to make noise.

I am worried about finding a job, but so blessed at the same time to be able to have this special time at home with Eva.

On Monday evening we headed over to Amy and Cory's. I made my homemade pizza (so good) and we wanted to see Issac and play with Sophia.

Here are some pictures and video from Saturday. We didn't do anything exciting - just ran some errands and ate at chic-fil-a. Gilbert and I are on a very tight budget and don't get to eat out anymore. But we came in under budget this month and decided to eat out for lunch at chic-fil-a! Eva liked the fries and chicken but enjoyed watching all the kids play even more!!

After we got home from running errands, we played upstairs.

Issac Grant Cissell was born a little before 9AM this morning. Gilbert and I kept Sophia this morning and took her over in the afternoon. Poor little girl fell asleep when we were about 2 minutes away from the hospital. So Gilbert stayed in the car with the sleeping girls and I got to go in by myself and love on little Isaac. He is such a handsome little man - all 9lbs 3ozs of him!

9 Months Old

Time flies when you are having fun!! Eva has really developed this past month. She can feed herself, is babbling more and is cruising and crawling all over the place. She has also mastered opening and closing cabinet doors and drawers. She is finally getting into books and reading. Her favorites are "I Love you Through and Through", "Where is Baby's Belly Button" and "Peek-a Who?". She still loves music and will dance anytime she hears something with a beat! For a few weeks she was doing great with jarred baby food, but lately she won't have it. So we have been feeding her our food - mainly grilled chicken, rice, corn and bread. That girl LOVES bread. She also eats my baked oatmeal and oreos. She is pretty funny/frustrating when eating. She will put her hand in front of her mouth when she doesn't want anymore and will push the spoon away. Usually feeding time lasts over 20 minutes because she will continually change her mind about eating. She also thinks it is hilarious to drop food off the side of her highchair to the dogs waiting down below!

Gilbert is a wonderful father and loves spending time with her. He had his hours cut at work and is home with us all day on Mondays. Due to his company cutting his hours further, he is going to look for a second job. I am really going to miss all the family time we have right now. And I am still searching for a job. But trying to enjoy every second that I have with Eva. It is going to be really hard to leave her and go back into an office setting. I know that God has a plan for us - please continue to pray for our patience while he does his work!

Eva and I have a great evening routine. After dinner she gets to watch Dora and the opening of Diego. She really doesn't watch either, she spends most of her time crawling around on the floor and playing with the dogs. But she does love the music parts!

Next up is a bath and then playtime in her room before bed. She loves taking everything out and putting everything in her mouth! Notice how she doesn't chew on any toys...

We were listening to La Vivora de Lamar. I think she likes it.

So I couldn't do a huge post with the new house pictures and not have some Eva pics too!

On Friday night I put Eva in her swing so that I could clean up the kitchen. She was watching Diego and from the looks of it - she was enjoying herself!

Gilbert was trying to put this table together and Eva got up on the table top all by herself. She is really into EVERYTHING!

Gilbert wanted me to note that he still has hair. My Meme got him the hat for Christmas and he wears it inside and outside. His hair has gotten quite long and the hat is a great way to keep it out of his face. I would rather a headband, but he won't go there:)

Eva is crawling, pulling herself up, cruising on furniture and standing up on her own. She loves touching and exploring. Today we left her with my Mom so that we could pick up stuff from my sister's. It was the first time that I have left her alone and she didn't cry for me. What?!? Sophia was also over at my Mom's and the girls had fun together. Sophia and Eva even danced together. It was the cutest. Eva LOVES music. She gravitates to any toy that makes music and likes singing with me to the "Little Einsteins" theme song.

When she wants to, Eva can finish an entire jar of food. Her favorites are turkey and vegetable and orange, orange, orange. The later is a baby food that I made her that consists of carrots, sweet potatoes and orange juice. What she really likes is anything that we are eating - especially chicken and rice. She also enjoys any bread and chocolate. Hey - she is my daughter....

I really like the baby bathtub that we got. It has a netting in it which allows you to give an infant a bath and then it converts when they get a little older. The one we have is The First Years Deluxe Comfort.
Hooded towels are really great. Target brand ones work just fine:)
And the Target brand wash and lotion are just as good as Johnson and Johnson!

Bed
Whew. Tons of options. Most parents feel more comfortable sleeping in the same room as their newborn - but for how long really varies.
Bassinet/Cradle - There are some really beautiful bassinets and cradles out there, but these are pretty time limited due to length and weight restrictions.
Pack-and-Play - This is a great investment because you can use this anytime you travel. It folds up pretty compact. Many also have a portion that you can place at the top to either change diapers or for a newborn. Only drawback is the size when open. They can take up quite a bit of space.
Arms Reach Co-Sleeper - This is similar to a pack-and-play, but one side is lower so that it will go right beside your bed. It also comes in a mini size (which I had) if you don't have a ton of space. This is great for nursing moms or c-section moms. You can just slide the baby over and back - you don't have to get up, bend over, etc. The co-sleeper also has 2 heights, so you can lower once your baby starts sitting up.
Misc - There are lots of different things you can purchase that will claim to reduce colic, reduce SIDS risk, etc. But if you think about it, some of them look pretty uncomfortable! We just have a wedge that we placed underneath the fitted sheet.

Baby Monitors
All I can say is read the reviews! Amazon is a great website because you can read reviews from people that have actually purchased the product. Consumer Reports is also a resource, but I have found it difficult to sometimes locate the products that it rates highly.

Beyond
Sleepwear - I am all for the gowns and anything with a zipper. With newborns you are going to change a million diapers at night and being sleep deprived, your fingers just don't work as fast with all those snaps! You and your little one will appreciate anything that is quick and I think the gowns and zippers are the best options
Diapers - My personal favorite are Pampers Swadlers.
Pacifiers - It seems that some babies like them and others don't. And those that do have a preference to one brand. So if your little one doesn't take to them right away - maybe a different brand is all you need.

Bathtime & Bedtime with Dad

Eva has really been fun at bathtime over the past week or so. It was great for Gilbert to have bath time with her tonight. Here she is being silly.

So I am an obsessed Mom who thinks that Eva should be talking by now - or at least make repeating sounds. And since she is not, I blame myself and our lack of reading to Eva. So since Gilbert was in charge of bedtime tonight, I made sure he read to her:)

I think we are in another baby boom! I counted the other day and I know 8 women who are expecting right now - many of them with their first baby. So I thought that I would start writing blogs about pregnancy and new baby. My sister was a huge source of information during my pregnancy and I wanted to pass along much of that information, as well as things I learned myself.
This first blog will tackle pregnancy.

Eating & Exercise
You only need to consume 200 extra calories when pregnant - so really you only need to add in an extra (healthy) snack. People will try to force feed you and tell you to have more because "you are eating for 2". You are - but the baby really doesn't need an entire gallon of ice cream. The exception to the rule comes in the first month or so when you are not feeling well. At this point you should eat whatever makes you feel better - as long as you know it is time limited!
Exercise really helped me deal with all the body changes. Everyone knows that exercise makes you feel better about yourself, and you need all of those feel good hormones as you watch your body expand! I continued most of my pre-pregnancy workout for a good chunk of my pregnancy. Walk, run, spin, swim - just get your body moving!
Make sure you talk to your doctor about their list of dos and don'ts. My doctor was very liberal with me and working out. I even continued ab exercises on a stability ball after my 5th month.

Clothing
There is some really cute and really expensive maternity wear out there. I loved my Bella Band. I was able to wear my regular jeans into my 5th month and was able to get back into them sooner. I also really liked wearing it right after I had Eva. It made me feel like I had some support on my stomach - which felt like a bowl of jelly!
I also had a lot of long regular shirts that I wore throughout my pregnancy and even now (which cover the lower tummy area - which is still not back to normal!!).
I wouldn't recommend spending a lot on maternity clothes with the exception of jeans. Find a really awesome pair that make you feel great. I loved my Babystyle jeans.
And as much as you might be excited to shop for maternity clothes, wait until you need them. Every women carries their baby differently, so something might look good on you when you have a little belly, but look horrible when you are further along.

Reading Material
I enjoyed Fit Pregnancy and Baby and Newborn magazines. There are also a TON of books out there. Just remember the Internet is full of information and it is free and sometimes easier to find during a google search than in a book!
If you are planning on nursing, I would recommend attending a class. Books are okay - but I found the class we attended very helpful. Plus your spouse can attend with you.

Memories
No matter how gross you might think you look, make sure you take a picture of your belly every month. I promise that you will want to look back and remember the different stages! And if your finances allow, find a good photographer to take belly shots. Mine were done in the 8th month (when I felt like a whale!), but the pictures turned out great and I love that we had them done.

On Saturday night the Cissells and Aguilars went to dinner with Meme. We finally gave Meme our Christmas presents. Sophia was excited to help unwrap gifts. I guess this Christmas made her a certified professional at unwrapping! Eva was a good girl and sat in the highchair for most of our meal and helped me eat my dinner. It was a great evening!

One of the reoccuring themes during the election was in regards to Obama's experience level. He assured the American public that he would surround himself with individuals with experience. Smart move - I guess. But why is it that everyone he is picking had a role in the Clinton administration? Makes you wonder who is running the show. Bill/Hillary or Obama? My vote is Billary.

New Things...

Eva is getting better at eating. She finished a jar in 2.5 feedings. This is HUGE. I started making her baby food. Just hope that she likes my food as much as the jar food:)

Eva can now feed herself puffs. Hooray!

We can no longer leave Eva unattended for a second. She is pulling up on everything - and with that comes some falls...

Eva started cruising tonight from one piece of furniture to another. Yikes!

Eva LOVES to go to the grocery store. We sit her in the cart and she stares at everything and everyone. If she sees another baby or child she will lean out of the cart just to see them.
Eva has now started to cry if I take something away from her that she shouldn't play with. Tonight she got upset when bathtime was over. When she gets really ticked off she will arch her back. Sometimes this makes me want to laugh.
Eva has finally tasted the juice in her sippy cup. She prefers pear to apple.

New Year

I can't believe how fast 2008 flew by. 2 big events occurred this past year - the birth of Eva-Renee and our move to Indiana. It is hard for me to believe that 1 year ago today I was pregnant and counting down the days until my ultrasound so that we could know for sure that we were having a girl. I would have never thought a year ago today that Gilbert and I would pack up all our belongings and leave our first home together for Indiana. I also never thought that we would be living with family for close to 3 months waiting for our house to sell!
It would be so easy for me to focus on what didn't happen in 2008, but I find more hope in looking at all our blessings.
Gilbert and I truly are blessed to have such a happy, healthy daughter. Eva has been such a ray of light for us and has brought us closer together than I ever thought imaginable. Being a Mom has REALLY changed me - but for the better. I no longer get my $150 haircuts and color or go shopping at Nordstrom on a regular basis. My shoe collection has not seen an addition in quite some time and we haven't been out to any fancy restaurants in months. And the crazy thing is...I don't miss it. I am so happy spending time with Eva that I don't care so much about having the latest and greatest. She is my passion and being a good mother and a good role model for her is my number 1 priority.
We are both blessed to be employed right now. Gilbert really likes his new job and I am still enjoying working from home. Neither of us know what the future will bring, but we are grateful that we have good jobs and good health benefits.
We are blessed with wonderful and supportive families. This weekend we will be moving in with my parents to give Amy and Cory a chance to regroup and get their house ready for the new baby. As difficult as it has been for everyone, we are thankful that we do have someplace to stay. There is no way that Gilbert and I could afford to rent an apartment along with our mortgage in Texas - so staying with family has really been a blessing. I know that our move was really hard on Gilbert's family, but they have been very encouraging and supportive. We hope that Gilbert has a chance in the next few weeks to go and visit. I know how hard it is to be away from family...
If I wanted to dwell, I am sure I could think of plenty of things that I would have liked to do differently or things that I wished had a different outcome. But I want to focus on the positive from last year and dream of the good things to come this year. My only resolution is to look at the glass half full - to focus on all the good in my life - there is a lot of it!
